Animal Plough System and Sustainable Cultivation

...

Animal Plough (AP) is widely used for cultivating lands in Bangladesh and many countries in the South-East Asian region. In Bangladesh, the use of AP is more available in some parts of the Sylhet district. There is a shortage of power in the country for tillage, particularly during the peak cultivation periods. Despite some controversies about the role and potential of AP in reducing the shortage of power, AP is considered a potential means of solving the existing power crisis. Plough alone becomes very hard, particularly in the dry season when soil gets very hard and almost becomes very hard. Thus, the general health of the animals might be improved with  the available food supply and the able bodied animals would be able to provide the existing power requirements.
If animal plowing could be extended throughout the country, a large number of farmers would be the immediate and direct beneficiaries because they would need to maintain fewer animals to meet their current power requirements. Additionally, the small farmers, and society at large, were also likely to benefit because surplus cattle might help small farmers to enhance the milk-producing status.  Thus milk production might increase as well.
